Course introduction

In this Skills for Life short course, powered by Springpod, you’re going to take a deep dive into the exciting world of apprenticeships. In Lesson 1, we'll dive headfirst into what an apprenticeship is, unlocking how they could kickstart your career. Lesson 2 is where we'll explore what makes apprenticeships a dynamic learning experience. In Lesson 3, we'll discuss the benefits that come with choosing this pathway, from earning while you learn to gaining invaluable skills.

Then, in Lesson 4, we'll give you some tips on how to secure that dream apprenticeship opportunity. Lesson 5 will inspire you with real-life apprenticeship success stories from people who are currently working towards, or have finished an apprenticeship.

Finally, in Lesson 6, you'll have a chance to hear about some of the employers who are eager to help and recruit the next generation of skilled professionals. Buckle up, because this apprenticeship journey is about to help you take control of your future - and it all starts with skills!

Course introduction
1. What is an Apprenticeship?

In this lesson you will get to grips with the term “apprenticeship” and discover exactly what it means. You’ll learn how apprenticeships work from beginning to end, as well as gain an understanding of the varying levels of apprenticeships, and the difference between each one.

2. Life as an apprentice

In this lesson, you’ll discover more about life as an apprentice. You’ll gain an understanding of the difference between both on and off-the-job training, and discover more about the qualifications and career pathways available to you.

3. The benefits of Apprenticeships

In this lesson, you’ll get a better understanding of the different benefits of apprenticeships. You’ll discover more about the financial side of apprenticeships, and the benefits of gaining plenty of training and experience.

4. Securing an Apprenticeship

In this lesson, you’ll take a closer look at some of the key steps you’ll need to take to secure an apprenticeship, including direct applications to apprenticeship employers. From accessing essential advice to get you started, to searching for different apprenticeships, this lesson will take you through everything you need to know.

5. Apprenticeship experiences

In this lesson, you’ll hear from those who’ve already taken their first steps on their journey to success via apprenticeships. You’ll hear from real-life apprentices who’ll share their experience of what an apprenticeship can be like, and see how an apprenticeship can help you achieve career success.

6. Meet Apprenticeship employers

In this final lesson, we’ll offer you some advice about key apprenticeship sectors, and where you can begin your search for apprenticeships in specific fields. It’s a chance for you to get closer to the employer and apprenticeship options available for you.
